Gap Girl 101

Here at 9402 we've been debating the cuteness, chicness and wearability of the printed, long-sleeved shirt dress pictured below.  What was initially seen as unappealing became quite the standout piece with just a little bit of styling...

First, we belted:

One of the best things about this dress is its print--it has the appearance of wool without the heaviness of the actual fabric, a perfect transition piece as summer dwindles down and we start out fall!  The colors (black, white, grey and a rich neon-green/yellow) are playful, but understated by the classic silhouette of the dress. What this picture does not do justice is the hidden buttons that end at the natural waist leaving a flat skirt and...POCKETS! Always a favorite addition to a dress like this one.

Then we added a sweater:

The 'rich neon-green/yellow' of the sweater brings out the same color in the dress.  This adds more flare to the look and can be worn over the dress to break-up some of the pattern for those who aren't as fond of all over prints. And if the color is much too much...

Always go for black:

The silk-blend black cardigan allows for a quieter look.  This top can also be worn over the dress to dilute the pattern.

Whatever way you wear this look remember: Fit is important!  Make sure you are comfortable with the length of the skirt and the arms.  If you are unsure about sizing always try up and down a size.  Have fun with your outfits!   Accessorize with shoes and jewelry, roll the sleeves up, wear a tank under the dress with the buttons down, etc. Happy shopping!
